2003 Evaluation of Soybean Varieties for Symptoms of Iron
Chlorosis
During 2003 the University of Minnesota, Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics, Soybean Breeding and Genetics Project conducted Iron Chlorosis Evaluations on high pH soils near Breckenridge in western Minnesota.
The Breckenridge site was planted June 5 and observations for chlorosis were made on July 15 and on July 31. The experimental design was 3 replications of each variety in randomized complete blocks.
Iron chlorosis scores range from, 1 = no chlorosis to 5 = severe chlorosis. The varieties Dawson and Corsoy 79 are used throughout these trials as standards or checks to gauge the level of chlorosis and also the repeatability of the scores.
Data presented in tables, 1-5, estimate iron chlorosis tolerance based on visual scoring of far northern, northern, central and southern Minnesota adapted varieties, as well as of special use varieties. Varieties are indicated by Conventional or Round up Ready type, C or R respectively; a blank indicates no information provided by the entrant.
Comparing iron chlorosis scores permits you to estimate how well varieties perform relative to each other. These comparisons should only be made within the same table and not between tables. Actual ratings may vary depending on the year, the specific site and within the site of the evaluation.
