Storing high moisture soybeans

Record low temperatures and excess precipitation has made soybean harvest difficult across much of the state. Soybeans that are being harvested currently are often coming out of the field rather wet. We have received many questions regarding storage of soybeans that are above 13% moisture.

Soybeans that are greater than 13% moisture will not store well, long term, and natural air drying will be very difficult this fall considering the air temperatures Therefore, some may consider high-temperature drying. Please read "Soybean Drying, Handling, and Storage" by Bill Wilcke, Vance Morey, and Ken Hellevang to better understand this issue.
